A local tourist for a day

I decided to stay local this time.  I only had a few hours before I had to get back to FCM, so I went to the Lake Lure Adventure company and rented a kayak for an hour.  The water on Lake Lure was calm that day so it was easy to cover a long distance in a short amount of time if you wanted to, however, I was more in the mood to just take it easy and enjoy being on the lake.  I circled a small island and cruised by the shoreline to get a glance at the huge homes that have been built around the lake.  I love kayaking and the feeling of being so close to the water.  At times I was tempted to jump in, but the lack of extra clothes and a towel were enough to keep me dry.  The second activity was to check out the local golf club, the Lake Lure Golf Club.  I didn't have time to play a round so I just grabbed a bucket of balls and hit the driving range.  I had an hour left after leaving the club so I drove over to Chimney Rock State Park.  I had already walked the trails earlier this spring but was in the mood for a view from the top at sunset.  I walked back over to the Hickory Nut Falls for a quick glance and then ventured up Chimney Rock to absorb the view once more.  The park was closing in 30 minutes so I basically had the place to myself.  So I reached the top and just enjoyed the breeze that instantly cooled me off from all the effort put in to get there.  The cool breeze and the sun setting over the trees was a perfect ending to my day.  I think its easy to forget what a beautiful place this is.......I always know where to go to be reminded....

Things to do close to Chimney Rock

Hi all,

Spent some time exploring my surroundings and found some beautiful places to visit that are within an hours drive from Chimney Rock.  My first adventure was getting a little taste of the Pisgah National Forest.  I didn't have a lot of time so I was only able to see the Looking Glass Falls and complete a small hike.  My hike was along the Cat Gap trail which was challenging due to the constant uphill terrain but peaceful with all the sounds of nature surrounding me as I went.  The only regret was the lack of bug spray which I hope I never forget to bring again. The second location I visited was the Dupont State Forest which is in between Hendersonville and Brevard.  This is truly the Land of Waterfalls.  I was able to see half of the area and I look forward to my next trip back to finish the rest.  What I did see was the Triple, Hooker, and High Falls.  The hikes to each location is very manageable and the reward is worth every step.  I hope to have pictures of these great places on the FCM website soon.  I highly recommend a trip to Dupont State Forest and I'm planning to return next week to see the falls I missed.  Happy travelling.

The Summer heat is here

The Holiday weekend is behind us and the summer heat is here. The temps in Chimney Rock are getting up to the mid 90's now.  Lake Lure beach is open and just in time, I might add.  The Chimney Rock State Park is hosting a "Family Wellness" day and there is "Summer Music" in Flat Rock on June 4th.  Also the Flat Rock Playhouse is presenting "Chicago" June 1-12, call 1-866-732-8008 for details.  Here in the Chimney Rock area we have lots of activities to chose from.  A few examples would be river rafting, zip lining, horseback riding, golfing, boating on Lake Lure and the list goes on.  There is something for everyone here and there is plenty of space and no crowds to worry about. Looking for a tranquil place to relax? Our second floor deck has wisteria vines lining the rail, the sounds of water meandering by, and the beautiful view of the Hickory Nut Falls. Come and experience it yourself.

See you soon,

Dean

Memorial Weekend

It's the start of Memorial Day Weekend and we still have rooms available. The weather hasn't helped at all.  The rain has been falling off and on since last night.  The good news is that the skies should clear for the Lake Lure Arts and Crafts Festival starting tomorrow and going through Monday.  We are hoping for some walk-ins tonight and thankful that we are full tomorrow.  Hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe holiday.
